A journey of faith spanning eight decades of service, growth, and community transformation
John 1:5
The Ethiopian Berhane Kristos Church has a rich spiritual heritage that spans decades of faithful ministry. From humble beginnings, the church has grown into a vibrant community committed to spreading the Gospel and serving people across Ethiopia.
Concerning the Ethiopian Birhane Kristos Church, formerly known as the Baptist Church, there are many important things that should be known but have remained unknown until today; they are too many to be fully counted.

Before the Italian invasion, Mr. James Lackman came to Ethiopia through Asmara and worked with Sudan Interior Mission (SIM). He later left because of the invasion but returned after the Italians were defeated. In September 1941, together with Stane Lindbarg, he received permission from Emperor Haile Selassie to work in Ethiopia. They rented a house around Arat Kilo (or Piazza) in Addis Ababa and began worship services, becoming part of the third group of Gospel missionaries to come to Ethiopia.
The church began expanding its ministries across different regions of Ethiopia, planting new congregations and strengthening faith communities.
The church experienced significant growth during this period, establishing new branches and developing comprehensive educational programs for the community.
Entering the new millennium, the church embraced modern technologies and expanded its outreach programs, serving thousands more families across Ethiopia.
